What is a Blepharoplasty/ Eye Lift Surgery?
There are three options for an eyelid lift:
Upper Eyelid Lift (Upper Blepharoplasty)
As we age, the upper eyelid skin can become very loose and begin to hang down over the edge of the upper eyelid, giving the appearances of looking tired. This excess skin can also cause difficulty with vision and with opening the eyes. Men and women can benefit from the removal of the excess eyelid skin in a procedure known as a blepharoplasty. The excess skin along with a small portion of the muscle will be carefully removed by making a hairline incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid. This incision helps to tighten the eyelids and give a more youthful appearance!
Lower Eyelid Lift (Lower Blepharoplasty)
The lower eyelids can develop puffiness, bags and dark circles and give a person the appearance of exhaustion. The lower eyelid procedure will give the patient a more refreshed appearance while at the same time, looking natural. The puffiness and loose skin of the lower eyelid is removed by making a hairline incision in the natural crease of the lower eyelid just underneath the lash line. Dr. Payne will carefully place the incisions so that they will be less noticeable as they heal.
Combined Upper and Lower Eyelift (Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty)
The upper eyelid procedure is performed under anesthesia and can be done in conjunction with the lower eyelids or with other facial procedures, like a Facelift, to give the most optimal and rejuvenated appearance. The procedure itself takes around 1-2 hours for both the upper and lower eyelids of both eyes.
Can I benefit from blepharoplasty?
Yes! If you feel that you have puffiness, and loose skin around the eyes, then this will be the procedure for you. Blepharoplasty is a great procedure to help preserve the eye area and keep it looking youthful.
What to expect after blepharoplasty surgery?
Dr. Payne has extensive training in craniofacial reconstructive surgery, and is meticulous during the blepharoplasty procedure. Dr. Payne may use a combination of absorbable and permanent sutures.
The incisions will begin to heal after about a week, and Dr. Payne will remove any sutures at your post op appointment. Everyone is different but most people will experience a little discomfort immediately following surgery, but with plenty of rest you will recover quickly.
Will I experience swelling or bruising?
Some swelling and bruising will occur with an eye lift and resolve within a few weeks. You can resume wearing makeup after about two weeks.
