What is a mommy makeover?
Having a baby can be an exciting and happy time in a woman’s life, but it can also bring quite a few unexpected changes to the body, which cannot always be addressed by diet and exercise alone. That means no matter how many sit ups, the abdomen cannot be tightened back to its original shape. The traditional Mommy Makeover involves lifting of the breasts, breast augmentation, tummy tuck and liposuction. Great moms can have great bodies too, and Dr. Payne and his staff will help set you on the path to a brand new you!
Is a mommy makeover just for moms?
Even through the nickname is mommy makeover, this procedure can be performed on a variety of women. For example, any women who have experienced extreme weight loss, or who are seeing changes in their body due to age.
Breast: After pregnancy and breastfeeding, a woman’s breasts can begin to lose their shape and their fullness. To restore the breast to a more normal appearance, a mastopexy or breast lift can be performed along with placement of breast implants to restore volume.
Abdomen/tummy: During pregnancy, the abdominal muscles can be stretched causing laxity or weakening of the muscles. This can lead to abdominal muscle separation, also known as rectus diastasis. Unfortunately, rectus diastasis cannot be corrected with core muscle strengthening or sit-ups. An Abdominoplasty can correct a weakening abdominal wall by tightening and bringing the muscles closer to midline. This leads to a flattening of the abdomen along with narrowing of the waistline. Any extra loose skin can also be addressed with an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck.
Liposuction: Liposuction is a procedure that removes excess fat to achieve a more slim and youthful figure. It can be preformed on the abdomen and sides, as well as other problem areas at the same time as the abdominoplasty.
What to expect after a mommy makeover surgery:
These surgeries can be done in one surgery or broken up into two surgeries. By doing the surgeries in two separate stages, it can reduce the risks involved with prolonged anesthesia. It is also recommended that patients undergo the abdominoplasty with liposuction first, followed by the breast lift and augmentation. If the surgeries are combined, typically there is an overnight stay in the hospital. If the surgeries are performed in stages, then you may be discharged home with follow-up in the office the following morning.
